Re.Pub.Lk

With the football fever picking up a notch and the Super 16 round delivering upset after upset, we’re sure a lot of people are looking for great places to catch the action. Our previous list of a Top Three places included Re.Pub.Lk, a plush pub in the heart of Colombo. The pub has been showcasing the FIFA 2018 matches on giant screens, but regardless if you are a football fan or not this place is a great watering-hole for Colombo’s pub crawlers. Actually, even if you are a complete teetotaler, then go here just for their food that is super value for money.

Housed behind the Dutch Hospital precinct Re.Pub.Lk has definitely paid a lot of attention to detail when it comes to their interiors. We love the red brick wall and the low lighting that creates the perfect ambiance for an evening wind down session with friends. With seating for more than 200 people Re.Pub.Lk can get quite crowded towards evening but we dropped by during lunch time when there were relatively less patrons.

Since it was an afternoon we ordered a non-alcoholic Blue Sky and Passion Fruit Mojito to go with the famed Re.Pub.Lk Onion Rings, Mushroom Momos, Pork Baos and Peri Peri Chicken with Blue Cheese Dip. The starter portions are quite large and can be shared which is why we think their totally worth the money you pay for it. Re.Pub.Lk’s version of the classic onion rings are exceptionally good, not oily at all and crunchy with every bite. The Sriracha Mayonnaise that it comes with is tangy, spicy and sweet all at the same time which we also loved. The Peri Peri Chicken was also epic especially dipped in the Blue Cheese. Dumplings with either Mushroom, Curried Chicken or Pork come served in the traditional bamboo steamer and is a considerable portion. We ordered the Mushroom and found them to be light with tons of filling and perfectly steamed. Then there was also the Pulled Pork Baos which were just melt in your mouth. For those who don’t fancy pork, the Baos also come in Teriyaki Chicken or Beef.

As if that wasn’t enough food to stuff you up we also ordered the Re.Pub.Lk Ramen Bowl and the Classic MacNCheese for our mains. Two worlds apart the dishes were both really good in their own right so it’s hard to pick a favourite. The ramen one pot meal had flavourful broth, Udon noodles, the traditional egg and your choice of meat, but we maybe partial to the MacNCheese which included Bacon (yay!) and served with Garlic Bread and Salad.

The Blue Sky was such a pretty drink and tasted brilliantly limey and was perfect to cut the heat in some our spicier food options. To finish off the meal we also ordered a Nutella Bread Roll Churros portion which is basically Nutella Bread Rolls with Strawberry Sauce and Whipped Cream. Anything with Nutella we love and the fact that it was a pastry with all that generous topping was great. We highly recommend this even if you want to simply have dessert and skip mains.
